CLIMATE CHANGE

Every day we see the increased effects that human activities have on climate change, from extreme weather events to boil-water advisories. The impact of burning fossil fuels, plastic pollution in oceans, and the conversion of land from forests to agriculture is changing the world's climate in a negative manner.

Climate change affects not only our environment, however; there are also many human health and social concerns associated with climate change.  For example, natural disasters caused by climate change, such as wildfires, droughts, high winds, and floods, can cause loss of life, injuries, damage to homes and infrastructure, which can further result in human displacement,
loss of livelihood, poor health, and water and food insecurity, all of which have a direct impact on society and the economy.

To put it another way, human activity has an impact on climate and the environment, which then impacts humans.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Save energy at home
(and Save Money!)

Much of our electricity and heat is powered by coal, oil, and gas. Use less energy (and save money!) by adjusting heating and cooling to more moderate temperatures, switching to LED light bulbs and energy-efficient electric appliances, washing laundry with cold water, and hanging clothes to dry instead of using a dryer.

Reduce, reuse, repair,
and recycle

Electronics, clothes and other items we buy cause carbon emissions at each point in production, from the extraction of raw materials to manufacturing and transporting goods to market. To protect our climate, buy fewer things, shop second-hand, repair what you can, and recycle as much as possible.

 Educate Yourself
and Others

Educate others about effects of climate change on our society.  Whether you use word-of-mouth or social media, there are ways to educate others on what climate change is doing to our planet. You can help protect the planet by educating others about the long-term dangers of climate change and how to act against it.
There are many actions we can take and products we can use to help protect our climate and the environment.
