On-Calls and Supervision
Occasional Teachers are required to cover previously scheduled on-calls as well as any supervision the teacher has. The on-call or supervision must be adjacent to a period taught. If the assignment was only Periods A and B and the teacher has an on-call during Period C or a supervision during the second half of lunch it does not need to be covered by you, but you would need to cover the first half of lunch. Talk to the Vice Principal about it ahead of time. Double on-calls are NOT our requirement nor are the ones given out that day (emergency on-calls).
If you know that the teacher has a prep period during Period A, you still need to go to the school for 8:30 since you may now know if they have an on-call scheduled, particularly if the posting was made that morning. Also, check with the Vice Principal with regards to last period prep. If an emergency occurs during the day, they could need you to cover the last period which would allow you to be paid 0.33 extra for the day. This applies to Period A prep as well. Either way, make sure to confirm with the office if you leave the school for any reason.
While you are in an LTO, you are required to complete on-calls as well as supervision that would have been assigned to the permanent teacher. Supervision is at a maximum of one half period per week, and on-calls are at a maximum of two per week and 8.5 per semester for a 1.0 LTO. If the assignment is less than 1.0 FTE, supervision and on-calls will be adjusted accordingly.
